MY DEAR ELCE-THAT WAS SUCH A LOVELY AND TOUCHING STORY. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING,IT BROUGHT ME TO TEARS. ONLY OUT OF THE MOUTH OF BABES COULD SUCH A TENDER HEART FELT STATEMENT BE EXPLAINED BY A CHILD SO YOUNG. I TRULY BELIEVE THAT OUR HEAVENLY FATHER BLESSES OUR CHILDREN WITH WISDOM THAT WOULD TAKE AN ADULT A LIFE TIME TO LEARN. THE CARING AND COMPASSION IS IMMEASURABLE AND WILL BE WITH THEM ALL THE DAYS OF THEIR LIVES. AGAIN,THANK YOU ELCE. HAVE A VERY BLESSED DAY----LUV----FAIRYGIRL

I just ran into this today and it was so appropriate for this post. If you are a mother it will touch every fiber of your motherhoodness (not a word), if you are a father it will move you, if you are neither and it doesn't affect you, then you must be dead.

This was emailed to me by a co-worker this week....

A Dog's Purpose? (from a 6-year-old).

Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-oldIrish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners, Ron, his wife Lisa, and their little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle.

I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn't do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.

As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.

The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker 's family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away.

The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker's Death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives.
Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, ''I know why.''

Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I'd never heard a more comforting explanation. It has changed the way I try and live.

He said,''People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life -- like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?''
The Six-year-old continued,''Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long.''

Remember, if a dog was the teacher you would learn things like:

When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.

Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.

Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure Ecstasy.

Take naps.

Stretch before rising.

Run, romp, and play daily.

Thrive on attention and let people touch you.

Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.

On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.

On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.

When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.

Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.

Be loyal.

Never pretend to be something you're not.

If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.

When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.

ENJOY EVERY MOMENT OF EVERY DAY!

My little alpha girl decided to add to her annoying habits on walks. She had been barking at babies in strollers, joggers, bicycles and NOW TODAY AT 6 AM ADDED signs. Impossible. Just to go down the street to the park entails passing dozens of signs. SIGH. I had to get a muzzle that will prevent barking. Unfortunately will have to use it for our walks. Just hate to do that. SUPER SIGH.

But she does love jumping on my bed so that she can put her paws on my shoulders every morning and giving me a kiss and hug.

I tried to play my daughter's xylophone. OMG - I must be terrible, two of the dogs howled and the other put her paws over her ears and dove under the pillows.

Audrakay - hope the bunnies are all doing fine - particularly the babies.

Not my pet - but an endearing story with photos:

Debby Cantlon, who plans to release Finnegan, the young squirrel, back into the wild, bottle-fed the infant squirrel after it was brought to her house

When Cantlon took in the tiny creature and began caring for him, she found herself with an unlikely nurse's aide: her pregnant Papillion, Mademoiselle Giselle

Finnegan was resting in a nest in a cage just days before Giselle was due to deliver her puppies.

Cantlon and her husband watched as the dog dragged the squirrel's cage twice to her Own bedside before she gave birth.

Cantlon was concerned, yet ultimately decided to allow the squirrel out and the inter-species bonding began.

Finnegan rides a puppy mosh pit of sorts, burrowing in for warmth after feeding, Eventually working his way beneath his new litter mates.

Two days after giving birth, mama dog Giselle allowed Finnegan to nurse; family photos and a videotape show her encouraging him to suckle alongside her litter of five pups.

Now, Finnegan mostly uses a bottle, but still snuggles with his 'siblings' in a mosh pit of puppies, rolling atop their bodies, and sinking in deeply for a nap.

Finnegan and his new litter mates, five Papillion puppies, get along together as if they were meant to.

Finnegan naps after feeding.

Finnegan makes himself at home with his new litter mates, nuzzling nose-to-nose for a nap after feeding.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could all get along

Like Finnegan and the gang?

MORAL OF THE STORY: Keep loving everyone, even the squirrely ones

AAAWWWWW, FriscoGirl

That was truly a heart warming story!!

But alas, Max would probably think the squirrel was a BUG and Run!!!

We are so glad he is back with us, because he has been gone being a stud,

for the last 5 days. His first time ever!!! And he didn't want to leave his

new girlfriend.

He must be really tired because he came in the house and went straight to

his bed and crashed for about 4 hours. He didn't even want to eat before

crashing. I hope this doesn't change the sweet, wonderful, docile Max that

we know and LOVE. But I'm sure he had a howlin' good time!!!!

Soon to be Grandma again, Stubs
