Trolls and ogres shrivel and disappear if they are not fed.
What do you think about having an "ignore" feature on the forum, that hides posts from selected users from your view?
I am a member of some large sites that I would find unuseable without "ignore." This site is more civil, but that could change if its popularity grows.
What do you think?

I voted maybe someday but not now.
Why? A little background into my forum experiences: I post at a forum that is a political one for a certain party. There are 10s of thousands of members there with hundreds of OPs (original posts) and probably thousands of replies to those posts on a daily basis. I have placed 3 people on my ignore list in the 5 years that I have posted there. At this time only one person remains ignored.
So with so few posts here and I've not seen any posts or replies that warrant ignoring someone, I don't really see the need at this time.
Some game sites I've played at over the years have had chatting right along with playing the game. Usually within the chat box you can place a person on ignore and never used that feature when available. I have reported some players to admins whose chat was inappropriate (not a prude but some chatters don't realize that children play online games too). Haven't played a game here that has that function although I wish more of the games here had that capability as I enjoy meeting people. |

| I guess one could say it already has an ignore feature. Read it if you want, ignore the comment or respond to it. I don't think it warrants anything drastic at this point because I haven't noticed anything outrageous or extremely rude. Till then everything is fine. |

I am a frequent visitor of a major national cultural site, and a major regional site that attracts a lot of national negative attention. Because of the vicious flaming that happens on those sites, I have developed a low tolerance to boorish behaviour over the years. I could not continue to enjoy those sites without using the 'ignore' feature to control exposure to negativity and ill will.
tyedyeto, I agree that because there is so little traffic here, 'ignore' isn't necessary yet. I can remember the aliases of those who habitually offend my sensibilities. I think there are better things for GDGs staff to work on right now.
Thank you both for your thoughtful comments.

At the large site where I post, there are several moderators for every subject forum. There is a moderator forum where the mods can make decisions as to whether to delete a post or reply ('Name Removed' has a super high post count LOL), lock the thread or, at the extreme, ban a poster from the forum. These are volunteers but sometimes the site owners will get involved in a dispute, although that is rare.
For the most part, that system of checks and balances works well. I have disagreed with some decisions made but I abide by the rules of the forum.
I have no idea who monitors/moderates these forums but so far, I haven't really seen anything vicious.
BTW, I have seen some very funny locking thread posts by moderators over the years. Some mods have a great sense of humor.
Take care,
Tye |
