A BIG EEWW FROM ME LOL!!! |
Stubs, that got me to thinking about that rumor or folk tale about cosmetic companies making mascara out of bat guano.
I looked it up...
http://www.snopes.com/business/secret/mascara.asp
Hmmm.... I do believe there is a connection between the lipstick, mascara, and fish scales after all. |

Hey ConnieLea! It looks like I may have to change the title of the thread to:
Fact or Fiction!!?
Thanks for looking that up!
I am going to have to let my co-worker know that there are some 'fictions' on his list!
I am going to start editing the list!
Who else has found a fact or fiction item!!? |

Weatherman Willard Scott was the first Ronald McDonald.
The first couple to be shown in bed together on prime time TV were Fred and Wilma Flintstone.
The first toilet ever seen on television was on "Leave It To Beaver".
The sentence "the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" uses every letter in the english language. |

CONNIELEA - YOU ARE SOO RIGHT I ONCE HEARD SUSAN LUCCI ON A TALK SHOW SAY THAT PARTICULAR RUMOR HAD BEEN AROUND FOR YEARS
AND SHE HAD NO IDEA WHERE OR WHEN IT STARTED.
HERE ARE A FEW MORE "DID YOU KNOW".
JAMES A. RITTY, OWNER OF A TAVERN IN DAYTON, OHIO (MY HOMETOWN!)
INVENTED THE CASH REGISTER IN 1879 TO STOP HIS PATRONS FROM PILFERING HOUSE PROFITS.
A "CLUE" ORIGINALLY MEANT A BALL OF THREAD. THIS IS WHY ONE IS SAID TO "UNRAVEL" THE CLUES OF A MYSTERY.
THE ACT OF SNAPPING ONE'S FINGERS HAS A NAME IT IS CALLED A "FILLIP".
THE AMPERSAND (&) WAS ONCE A LETTER OF THE ENGLISH ALPHABET.
HERE'S ANOTHER ONE THAT IS INTERESTING: ROBERT TODD LINCOLN, WAS PRESENT AT THE ASSASSINATIONS OF THREE PRESIDENTS: HIS FATHER'S, PRESIDENT GARFIELD'S, AND PRESIDENT MCKINLEY'S. AFTER THE LAST SHOOTING, HE REFUSED EVER TO ATTEND A STATE FUNCTION AGAIN.
LOVE THIS THREAD THANKS ELCEE

HOWDY EVERYONE! Enjoying the corrections and additions and all the new stuff!!
I had a question on the celery and apples as negative calories.
Myth or Fact??
I looked up several sources on this, and selected this article which I think summed it up the best:

Keep em' coming!
El Cee
p.s. please note that I am making corrections to the original list highlighted in red as new information emerges. |

Re number 8 - busted by snopes
http://www.snopes.com/business/names/7up.asp
Inventor of 7-UP was NOT an albino.
The dot did not appear until the 1970's.
FYI the original formula had the mood calming drug lithium in it. Until 1950. |

If a bird hits your window and is stunned but nothing is broken, you can give it a tiny drop (use an eyedropper) of alcohol (the good kind, not the rubbing kind) and it will almost always revive and fly away.
Years ago, we had a rooster and a bird dog. The dog retrieved the rooster and stripped him of feathers and dignity and almost his life. We dosed Mr Rooster with drops of bourbon for several days and he lived for a long time thereafter.
Perhaps the bird people out there will have a better idea, but the birds may not be as happy as they are with our cure. |

| When I was a wee girl, we had a parakeet that like to take a nip now and then. At a party at our house, Petey Bird took one too many nips and ended up swimming in a glass of bourbon and water (not a happy ending for either Petey Bird or my mom) |
